Profile Summary

Mr. Ghazalli began his service with Monash University Malaysia on 15 October 2008 as the Bahasa Malaysia tutor attached to the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Mr. Ghazalli is a qualified teacher who received his training as a secondary school teacher at the Language Institute (Maktab Perguruan Bahasa ), Pantai Valley, Kuala Lumpur (1967 – 1968 ).

He specialised in the teaching of Malay Language, Malay Literature, Malay Culture and history. From 1969 till 1996, Mr. Ghazalli served in several secondary schools in Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, teaching Bahasa Malaysia, Malay Literature, History of South East Asia , and Moral Education. In 1977 – 1978, Mr. Ghazalli served as a Curriculum Officer at The Curriculum Delopment Centre, Ministry of Education, Malaysia, Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur. In 1979 – 1980, he was seconded to the Ministry of Defence, Malaysia as an academic officer at Boys Wing, Royal Military College in Sungai Besi where he taught Bahasa Malaysia and History. From 1982 to 1996, Mr. Ghazalli was promoted firstly, as Senior Assistant 1 and later, as Principal at several secondary schools in Selangor.

While serving in these capacities, Mr. Ghazalli studied part-time and obtained his Masters in Education (M. Ed ) from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in the field of Sociology of Education in 1983. Between 1996 and 2003, Mr. Ghazalli was a lecturer at the Department of Foundation of Education, Faculty of Education, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. At the level of Diploma in Education, he taught Sociology of Education, History and Development of Education in Malaysia, Philosophy of Education, Pedagogy, and Teaching Methodology of History. Mr. Ghazalli also supervised Trainee Teachers’ Practicums in secondary schools.

At the level of Bachelor’s Degree, Mr. Ghazalli taught Sociology of Education, Moral Education, Global Education, Early Childhood Education, and Philosophy of Education, as well as supervised Trainee-Teacher’s Practicums. At the level of Masters in Education degree, Mr. Ghazalli taught Sociology of Adolescents, Ethnography Method of Research, and supervised the writing of dissertations by M. Ed. Students. In addition, Mr. Ghazalli served as a Residential Hostel Supervisor or Fellow at the 4th Residential College (Bestari) in the University of Malaya from 1998 till 2002. Mr. Ghazalli retired from the civil service of Malaysia on 19 November 2003.

In Monash University, Mr. Ghazalli’s role is to teach Bahasa Malaysia to students of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. There are 3 levels that he will be handling : Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced. The Bahasa Malaysia classes are open to anyone who feels that he or she requires them and are voluntary in nature.
