About Us

The breadth of microbial and human diversity, flora and fauna in the rainforests and ecosystems that Malaysia has provide unparalleled resources for research and development into infectious agents, human diversity and diseases, microbial diversity and mechanisms, immunological responses to transplanted tissues, microbials, toxins, poisons and others that are unique to this part of the world. An important area of interest will be in the development of immunodiagnostics and immune-therapeutics in all these areas.
This research strength (RS) therefore provides a platform for microbiologists, immunologists, epidemiologists, pathologists, biochemists, geneticists, clinicians and sociologists to venture into studies, investigations and research involving pathogens, the host, the environment and their interactions. Established at MUSC in 2008, the group members currently consist of staff from the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sunway and Johor Bharu campuses. Our research group although small and diversified in our interests have strong emphasis on research into the understanding of infections caused by pathogenic microorganism (bacteria, virus, fungi, and parasites), their immune responses and defence mechanisms.
We will endeavour to conduct research that is relevant to all areas of infection and immunity within the expertise of members and their affiliates. We would like promote collaborative research by inviting researchers of other excellent centres of research which are nationally, regionally or internationally based.
